2024 NSW Pickleball Championships Wrap

Published Sun 28 Apr 2024

The 2024 Paradice Investment Management NSW Pickleball Championships, was the second largest pickleball tournament held in Australia, to date.
A few numbers from the tournament:

  • 684 competitors
  • 46 courts
  • 94 events
  • 1,947 games
  • 441 medals
  • 80% of the competitors were from NSW
  • 20 Referees, plus some newly trained referees
  • 72 volunteers

Singles

This tourney was remarkable for the large number of singles events: 24 full singles + 17 skinny singles (44% of the events). Singles is growing in popularity, with many players – especially women over 50 - opting for skinny singles to show that it is not a novelty event.

The Pickleball Association of NSW Facebook and Instagram pages have many photos from the event event, check them out.

Thanks to …

Our generous and hard working volunteers who made the event possible by doing everything from marking courts to checking in players to sorting out medals. Special thanks to the mighty Ben Kannan and his assistant Sonia Rockley, who worked tirelessly to transport equipment to the event, set up the tournament, worked three long days during the tournament, and then packed up and transported everything back to PANSW HQ.

Support from our sponsors makes a costly tournament financially viable and we recognise help from the following organisations:

  • Paradice Investment Management, our generous Gold Sponsor with naming rights
  • Clevercare Now
  • Sportsmagic
  • Franklin Balls
  • Engage Paddles
  • FCX Sports
  • Blacktown City Council for providing a wonderful venue, dedicated staff and support prior to and during the tournament

Our tournament director Matt Hort juggled many balls in the air to ensure that we completed all games at a reasonable time each evening.

The score entry team of Garry, Jane and Amelia did an amazing job.

Referees led by David Jay and Chris Gibson officiated hundreds of games.

Finally, I would like to say a big thank you to all of the competitors. Your enthusiasm for the great game of pickleball and your support of the Pickleball Association of NSW directly contribute to the growth of the sport in our country and, among other things, it gives us the opportunity to continue to deliver quality tournaments to the playing community.
