Members Brickpit Pickleball Bash
On Saturday, September 5 a special members only pickleball session was held at the Brickpit Sports Stadium, Thornleigh, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. 22 members participated in the session. The session aimed to bring together players with high level skills as a precursor to selection for the next Battle of the Border (BOTB) competition. Only PANSW members can represent NSW in the BOTB.
The BOTB requires high level pickleball skills and the flexibility to play with a variety of teammates. Accordingly, the Brickpit Bash began with four pools of players with each player given the opportunity to play with and against every other player in the pool. The 16 players with the highest accumulated point scores advanced to the second round of competition which saw players paired together at random (names drawn out of a hat).
The day ended with semi-finals and finals where pairings were again randomly drawn. Hans and Pam (yes, randomly drawn!) emerged victorious against Suz and Mradul. This was Mradul’s first pickleball competition! Promising start to your pickleball career, Mradul!
The PANSW was pleased to see quite a few newer players competing for their first time. This included PE teachers Peter, Jason and Lee from the Central Coast who are introducing pickleball into their schools.
