PICKLEBALL AT THE SENIORS & DISABILITY EXPO
A Seniors & Disability Expo was held at Sydney Olympic Park on Friday, September 13 & Saturday, September 14. The PANSW was given free community booth space to participate in the Expo and the opportunity to give pickleball demos on Saturday at 11:30 and 1:00.
It was estimated that 2,500 people attended the Expo. There was a steady stream of Expo visitors who stopped at the PANSW booth to learn about pickleball. The space for the pickleball demos was limited, but our enthusiastic players actively engaged Expo visitors in the demos with some wheelchair athletes joining in.
Visitors to the PANSW booth received a PANSW brochure aimed at seniors which highlights the many benefits of pickleball for senior athletes. Some 500 brochures were distributed to Expo visitors who stopped at the PANSW booth. (The brochure can be downloaded from the “About Pickleball” section of this website.) The PANSW volunteers also highlighted the suitability of pickleball for players of ALL ages. Expressions of interest were collected from visitors who wished to have follow up contact after the Expo. Secretary Sandra Canniff followed up with all these visitors after the Expo. The Association thanks Ian Lanser for coordinating PANSW participation in the Expo, Jackie Robinson for preparations for the PANSW booth and players Ata Wanoa, Hans March, Kerry Edards, Sandra Canniff and Suzanne March for volunteering their time on the stand along with Ian and Jackie.
