Project 1 Goal - Plan for social activities in playing sessions and additional/parallel to playing sessions.
Estimated length: 1 year
Project manager: Chris Taylor – President
Components: Sharing of social resources already being used by clubs and creating new ones; opportunities for social activities with World Pickleball Day, caravan crawls, interclub get togethers with players playing with those from other clubs.
Initiatives (2024):
- Investigate ideas of structured play being used by clubs; such as Snakes and Ladders
- Play using rally scoring
- Share these ideas with clubs
- Use special days such as World Pickleball Day, seniors’ day (grandparents day) to promote social play with BBQ or snacks provided
- Have interclub get-togethers where members must play with members from the other clubs
- Caravan crawl to venues outside club’s playing district
Example of a different playing mode – Snakes and Ladders
- Nominate Court 1 (top court), court 2, court 3, court 4 (bottom court). As mentioned, can also be played with 3 courts.
- Place the 4 strongest players on court 1. Next strongest court 2, etc., or at least similar with similar to start with.
- Play to 15 (side-out scoring) or to 11 (rally scoring). A timer is set for 11 minutes with a bell rung.
- When the timer goes off and players are at a draw, they play off for the next point. Whoever wins the next point wins the game.
- Those who win go up a court and split (so players play with different partners as much as practicable), and those who lose go down and split. Winners on court 1 stay on and split.
- Losers on court 4 go off for a bye if there are players waiting to join. If no one is waiting, players split and continue playing.
- Can be played with 3 or 4 courts
Financial implications: should be incorporated into club budgets
